How Much Can You Save With LED lights?

When you change a watt bulb into an LED equivalent while leaving it on for hours a day; and if your kilowatt hour cost is the national average of $, you will save this much per year per bulb:

LED are in my opinion the best invention that took too long to come to the mass market. LED lights come in an amazingly wide variety. The applications are only limited by our imagination. Not only are the applications amazing, the cost savings are through the roof. Please feel free to fill in the numbers above to find some approximation of saving you could see in your light bill if you replaced your incandescent lights for LED.

Light Emitting Diodes were invented in 1927 but not refined enough for using in the home until the mid 1990s. The light they produced was not friendly on the eye. Another problem was they weren’t affordable enough until the 2000s. On average LED lights produce a third the heat of incandescent bulbs, and in some cases 1/10th the power usage of incandescent bulbs.

Halogen lights were all the rage in early 2000s because they produced a very natural light. The only problem was the you could literally cook an egg on Halogen bulbs they were so hot. Compared to Halogen, LED bulbs are cool as ice and great for locations that are going to be close to the final user. Some locations that come to mind are under cabinet lights, reading lights, and vanity lights.

Let’s not forget the color changing ability of LED lights. Just by mixing the different variations of RGB (which is Red Green and Blue) in different brightnesses you can get what ever color your heart desires, which makes LED type lighting great for plant shelves and the holidays.

As some one who goes in a lot of attics, I’ve found another great use for LED Bulbs are in your attic. I have found a few LED glass bulbs but for the most part LED lights are plastic and don’t break if you drop them or hit your head on them. This also makes LED bulbs ideal for drop lights.
