Boat Dock Electric

Having a boat in the backyard can be the most liberating feeling, just jump on your boat and head out to sea. There are many options when it comes to installing a dock with a boat lift at your home. What size lift, how many outlets, what type of lights and so on.

At Batista Electric we have done many custom installations on boat docks for customers. Side mount lights, Pier top lighting, Snook lights, 50 amp ship to shore, 30 amp ship to shore, 120volt outlets, Gem remote systems, spring loaded manual remotes and more.

Installing all that electrical in a safe and professional manner is an absolute must at Batista Electric. We use stainless steel straps, dig our pipe 18” deep, use conduit the whole way down to the Dock. Keeping the installation electrically safe and working for a longtime is a top priority for us.

One of the most dangerous electrical areas around a home is the Boat Dock and Boat Lift area. A current as low as 10 Milliamperes can cause muscle contraction. With all the metal parts touching the water there are many points of entry for a small amount of voltage leak to pass from equipment to water and may drown and unsuspecting swimmer.

There are many codes to be aware of when wiring boat lift motors, dock lights and receptacles. The codes change every three years so staying up to date is important.

The most significant change is the fact that all wiring coming to a boat dock has to be GFCI protected before reaching the waters edge. In the past you were allowed to bring the power to the dock then use GFCI outlets for protection.

With all the options available and codes to be aware of let us take the guess work out of your next electrical boat dock project. Feel free to give us a call and set up an appointment for your dock evaluation.
